John Walter, one of my editors during my career, always had a way of explaining things so I could understand them.
“Yes, farming is complicated,” he said. “But when you break it down, it’s about dirt, mud, bugs and weeds all in the middle of crops.”
Or something like that.
During my travels across Iowa last week, I found a lot of what John talked about. What’s fortunate is that in between recent heavy rains and sprouting weeds is an excellent crop in the making. View the slideshow to see some of what I observed.
