Top 5 reasons to visit New York Farm Show

FFMC - Mon Feb 23, 2:00AM CST

The 40th New York Farm Show begins Thursday at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

There are plenty of reasons to come. But if you’re still on the fence, here are the top five reasons you should attend:

1. More than 60 new products to see. Whatever you’re looking for on the farm, you’ll find it at New York Farm Show.

Anything from big machines to dairy products to the small tool marketplace in the Center of Progress Building, don’t miss out on the 60 new products waiting for you at this year’s show.

Check out the links below to see more of this year’s new products:

2. Get educated on forestry. This year’s forestry seminars will be held Friday and Saturday.

From invasive species to sustainable woodlot management, this year’s seminars offer practical advice and cutting-edge strategies. And they will be held in a new location: the second floor of the Expo Building.

Seminars will be held Friday and Saturday starting at 10 a.m., with afternoon seminars on both days starting at 1 p.m.

They are sponsored by the New York Forest Owners Association and American Agriculturist. Go here for more information.

Auburn Ag - DJI-T100 drones

It’s built to cover fields quickly, safely and efficiently to save farmers time and labor. Check it out in the Expo Building. (Auburn Ag)

3. See ag history in action. If you’re an ag history buff, New York Farm Show will be the place to be.

The Daniel Parrish Witter Agricultural Museum at the New York State Fairgrounds will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day of the show.

New this year are an updated and revamped textile wing and general store, and newly updated cobbler and maple exhibits.

4. Answer questions and win a prize! Visit the American Agriculturist booth just inside the entrance to the Horticulture Building.

Take part in the annual opinion poll and get in the running for one of four $100 Cabela’s gift cards, or the grand prize, a Dewalt 20V Max Lithium-Ion cordless four-tool combo kit with batteries, charger and tool bag.

5. Toys, toys, toys. No, toys aren’t just for children. They are for everyone who is young at heart and takes pride in a certain color machine.

The New York Farm Show’s toy exhibitors will be housed in the Science Building.

Also, don’t miss the annual Bob Watson New York State FFA Alumni and Supporters Toy Auction at 5 p.m. Friday, taking place this year in the Expo Building. Proceeds will support a scholarship fund for students pursuing a career in agriculture or ag education.

Toy consignors can start bringing items at 1 p.m. Friday. Those who can’t make the show and would like to donate or consign items for sale can contact Roger Barkman at rbarkman@richfieldcsd.org.
