Grain carts are getting bigger. Farm equipment brands released massive machines at this year’s farm shows, and focused innovation on safety features and improved automation. Leading the charge are massive single-auger grain carts that challenge traditional dual-auger designs, while new safety systems address growing fire concerns in dry field conditions.
J&M Manufacturing’s 14 Series X-Tended Reach grain carts represent the biggest development, offering unprecedented 1,700- and 2,000-bushel capacities in single-auger designs. These units unload at over 900 bushels per minute, matching dual-auger performance while reducing complexity and cost. The advanced four-way Side Shooter spout technology provides precise grain control that simplifies operation for farmers managing increasingly large harvests.
Safety takes center stage with Demco’s fire safety system for grain carts, developed after extensive field testing during 2024’s dry conditions. The hydraulically powered system mounts directly on carts with a 200- or 300-gallon capacity, featuring 100 feet of hose for quick fire response without returning to the farmyard.
Automation continues advancing with Shurco’s E Series electric tarp conversion kit, which transforms manual grain trailer tarps into automated systems. The $2,200 retrofit features a 90-degree gearbox motor and steel arms, reducing physical demands on operators.
Unverferth expands options for its X1100 Extreme carts with new right-hand unloading capability and metallic gray paint options for 2026. Enhanced features include rear water delivery systems and improved access for maintenance.
The commercial transport sector gains attention with Stoughton’s Viking trailer, targeting over-the-road haulers with 43-foot length and hot-dip galvanizing protection. Meanwhile, EasiLoad addresses midrange needs with its 150-bushel seed tender, filling the gap between smaller and larger capacity units.
